ArmA Password Experiment Update
« on: March 10, 2014, 02:41:01 PM »
To all our ArmA regulars and community members thanks for playing on the ArmA server over the past week.  We've been able to collect some interesting data and have been watching reactions closely.

Last 24H  (From 9AM 3/9/2014 EST to 9AM 3/10/2014

Last Week (From Today, 3/10/2014)

Last Month (Last 30 days)

The last week and month graphs are the most telling on the outcome the password has had on server activity.

While we no longer have as many people in the server, it's pretty safe to say that the password didn't result in an empty server.  Indeed, the server has rarely been empty over the past week.

I've noticed sessions going well past the 3 hour mark being common place.

The happiest thing I can report is that you all have seemed to enjoy the game being hacker free.  Which is great!  We enjoy not having to hand hold the server.

We're going to extend the "experiment" for a week and see how it holds up over an extended period of time.  It would help if our ArmA players joined the mumble server.

And for those just tuning in... the password to the arma server is: awpwarfare

Pork is delicious.

Hey, I would just like to add this is finals week for many people in school. So I wouldn't expect the numbers to stay to high for at least this week. I know I definitely can't play every day.

Hi guys,
nice job with paswword protecting the server, sure makes playing more enjoyable and "moron free".
However, let me point out at a possible problem. I think, if it is technically possible, that you should forbid everybody who logs in when no other players are in the game, to log as admin.
Some of us are encountering problems with a guy named Liam who logs in as admin and, aside for being bossy and pretending he has the power, whenever leaves seems to be in the game (maybe he doesn't even disconnect) which make restarting game impossible until some of you guys restarts it.
Keep up the good work!

So you're saying he logs in as admin and then goes AFK or something, so he's blocking anyone else from logging in as admin? I'm not too sure if there is anything that can be done about that via the game script, but maybe someone who uses the battlewarden rcon utility can comment. If there is a way to bump someone out of in-game admin using rcon, then I could write a script that keeps checking the server every minute or two to do it.

I just kicked him out for now. If he's logged in as admin and is afk, the game will not restart once it reaches a winning scenario. it just sits there.

Oh shit, I didn't know that. Is there something in the mission script that does that or is that part of the game engine?

It looks like the game engine, because if you're signed in as admin when the game ends, you (the admin) have to click on the "restart" button that appears.

A voted admin is removed when a real admin logs on. This guy should not have real admin credentials.

He doesn't, he was voted, but no admin with credentials was available to log on to remove him.  ;D

Kid named Dennis voted himself admin with a couple players in game, using a bot __server__ as his voting buddy... then kicked me out(I was on the opposite team) he was playing with a buddy "Matthew."
Dennis is definitely a hacker and he has the password for the server too... so much for that.
